If you have been under the doctor for a while and have been suddenly referred on for an MRI scan from either a private hospital or a woodridge il doctor, then there are some things that you should consider, before taking steps to go privately. It is worth knowing that you will firstly need a referral letter from your doctor or consultant
a private hospital will not usually make an appointment for a scan without seeing the referral letter before hand. Especially on procedures, such as HSG’s and MRI Brain scans, as these can be complicated and may require more than is actually stated.

If you have more than one private hospital within your area, then it may be worth checking out prices at both hospitals, as more often than not the same consultants work at the same hospitals.

If you are wanting to book a procedure like an MRI scan, then you will usually be taken through the following procedure:

· Generally on phoning the hospital to make an appointment, you will be asked about your referral letter, (this will be required before any procedure can take place, and often before an appointment can even be made).
· If you are going for an MRI scan, then you will be asked a list of questions, to ensure that you are safe to go in the MRI scanner, these questions include:
o Have you ever had a heart murmur
o Do you have a pacemaker.
o Have you ever had any shrapnel or war wounds.
o Have you ever had any metal in your eye or worked with metal filings.
o Do you have a cochlea implant
o Is there any chance of pregnancy.

For obvious reasons, if you have ever had metal in you, especially in your eye then it may be necessary to carry out an x-ray of the skull to check out if you are safe to go into the scanner.

Once in the scanner, you will be required to keep exceptionally still, any slight jerk or movement will distort the pictures.
